‘We weren’t looking to have a “show off” chalet, says the owner. We have moved so frequently and instead, here, we were looking to create a reassuring and stimulating family home. I have lived this project as a voyage and the interior designer Brigitta Spinocchia Freund, who is also a friend, was there to support and accompany me.’
Her company, although relatively recent, is today a British retailer with a well established reputation. It specializes in the implementation of international projects for individual and high-end hotel developers focusing on creating bespoke interiors and craftsmanship. A vision that met the owners’ objectives: ‘One of her ideas was related to the made to measure doors in authentic pine wood and equally scattered nails on door fronts, a combination of wood and timber which is also enhanced in the kitchen furniture.’
Although the owners had specific ideas, there were times where they had doubts. ‘We had started with drawings and plans but we quickly realized that this was not what we were looking for and therefor took a different direction. It was quite complex. We wanted to create a timeless style, neither modern nor traditional and that doesn’t abide to any actual trend. We were looking for a certain elegance combined with a great attention to quality, craftsmanship and materials but our most important concern was to create a welcoming, comfortable and warm home. The ideas needed to be original and creative and unusual accessories were used in creative and fun way.’ An ambitious program that they have followed step by step and prolonged by attending multiple salons and antiques markets, from big designer names to small hidden shops. They have unearthed treasures from France, Switzerland, England or even the USA. ‘We had a lot of fun and laughter during this adventure and I think that the final outcome reflects the spirit in which the chalet was transformed. It is by far the most relaxing home we have ever had.’
